Black Dawn

This is a review of “Black Dawn” by Rachel Caine. It is book 12 in the Morganville Vampires Series. It follows on from “Last Breath“.

As this book is a part of a series, the following review may reveal some details of the previous novel/s. Do not read if you intend to read this series in the future and don’t want to know of any potential plot spoilers.

Morganville is still in the grip of the Draug. Magnus is still in town, and he’s not leaving while vampires still remain. Amelie is slowly suffering and changing from his bite. She doesn’t look good, and her room smells even worse. Ugh. Claire and the other Glass House residents are holed up in Founder’s Square existing on coffee and adrenaline. Myrnin’s got a plan of attack, but at best it only weakens the Draug, it won’t annihilate them. It’s an extremely dangerous plan to execute, but it’s got to be done if they want to survive. And after all, this is Morganville, when has life ever been easy? It’s unlikely that all of them will return safely from this task.

They’ve got to find a way to destroy the Draug. But how can you destroy something that has plagued vampires for centuries? It has never been done before, can they really believe that they’ll stand a chance?

I really enjoyed this one. Again we get perspectives from other Morganville characters. And this novel’s storyline for one character brings a while new meaning to the term “mind-f@#$-ed.” There were some sad parts, some heart-wrenching parts and some “Aw Yea!” parts.

Favourite lines/passages:

“There is a shocking lack of tea in this array of choices, do you realise that? Also, the carafe of type O is quite empty.”

“Shut up. We have zero time for you and your bullshit dramatics.”

“I am a queen. I take no orders”
