The Britlingens Go To Hell

This is a review of “The Britlingens Go To Hell” by Charlaine Harris. It is a novella found in the anthology “Must Love Hellhounds”.

Britlingens are well trained, powerfully muscular bodyguards that belong to The Britlingen Collective. They live on a different dimension to ours, and they take on dangerous jobs for lots of money.

Batanya and Clovache are Britlingens. They were introduced to us in the seventh Sookie Stackhouse novel “All Together Dead” in which they were the hired bodyguards of the Vampire King of Kentucky, Isaiah.

Batanya and Clovache are back on their own dimension at The Britlingen Collective with the other warriors. They are informed they have another mission to undertake. Their client, Crick, is an unusual fellow, and he wants to go to a place not many wish to go to. He wants to go to Hell.

As he is a paying client, Batanya and Clovache must go to the fetid and warm dimension of Hell to help Crick ‘recover’ an item he ‘lost’. Not entirely thrilled that they’re working for a thief, the two warrior women go about doing their jobs to the best of their abilities. After all, the client’s word is law.

They encounter many strange creatures along their journey: rolling dust-bunnies, demons, snake-men, giant slugs and hellhounds, and get into some interesting predicaments.

I really liked this novella. I liked the two Britlingens in “All Together Dead“, so I was delighted to have an entire novella devoted to Batanya and Clovache. “The Britlingens Go To Hell” was entertaining, humorous and fun.
