This is a review of “All Together Dead” by Charlaine Harris. It is the seventh novel in The Sookie Stackhouse Series. It follows on from “Definitely Dead“.
If you are a fan of the HBO show Trueblood, then you ought to know that the show has not reached this point in the series yet. Though as with “Definitely Dead“, I am not sure how they will incorporate this novel into the show as Queen Sophie-Anne is featured strongly in this novel too. I guess we will have to wait and see.
Sookie is enjoying getting to know her new boyfriend Quinn, but she’d like to spend more time with him. His job as an events co-ordinator for supernaturals leaves him pretty busy and it takes him all over the place. And Sookie is being kept busy herself.
New Orleans has been devastated by Hurricane Katrina and Sookie’s friend Amelia’s short visit to Bon Temps has been extended indefinitely. Sookie also has to take some time off her job at Merlotte’s to work for the vampires. Queen Sophie-Anne requires Sookie’s presence and telepathic ability at a vampire summit held in Rhodes. Sookie is going for the money, and Quinn will be there too, so it can’t be all bad…
But vampire business is never really safe, and it seems Sookie has signed on for more than she originally thought. Queen Sophie- Anne’s power base has been weakened by Hurricane Katrina, and she has enemies and frenemies waiting for her at the summit.
I really liked this Sookie novel. It delved deeper into the world of vampires, and Sookie explored her abilities a lot more than in previous books. Different types of relationships at differing points in progress were elaborated upon, and Sookie learned more about herself and about other characters. Towards the end there was so much suspense, and it was really easy to get lost in Sookie’s (well Harris’) tale.
